In Memoriam – Professor Milić Đekić, a retired full professor (1938 – 2024)

With great sadness we announce the passing of Professor Milić Đekić on September 2, 2024.

The entire staff of the Faculty of Technical Sciences Čačak is deeply saddened by the news of the death of our esteemed Professor, dear colleague and friend.

In the rich professional biography of Professor Đekić the following will be remembered:

Born in 1938, in Rti near Guča, Prof. Đekić finished Secondary Electrical Engineering School "Nikola Tesla", Belgrade, and graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Ljubljana, in 1964. After completing his Bachelor studies, he started working in the industry ("CER" factory of thermal devices, Čačak). Three years later he joined the Technical Overhaul Institute (REMONT) Čačak. In his time at this company, he completed three specializations, in Moscow, Saransk, and Budapest.

 

In 1977 he received his Master's degree from the School of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade, with a thesis titled "Methods of Measuring Magnetic Fields and Procedures for Protecting Against Their Effects", and in 1983 he completed his doctoral dissertation at the same faculty, titled "Contribution to the Analysis of Circuits with Current Measuring Transformers".

 

In 1973 he started teaching at the Higher Technical School Čačak. In 1977 he joined the Technical Faculty Čačak. In 1983 he was appointed to the position of associate professor of Basics of Electrical Engineering and Electrical Measurements, and in 1988 he was promoted to full professor for the same subjects. He also taught Electrical Measurements at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Priština, and Electrical Engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Kraljevo.

 

Through his scientific and professional activities Dr Milić Đekić achieved notable results, especially in the field of electrical measurements, developing methods and procedures for measuring magnetic quantities and designing electromagnetic devices. He realized several scientific-research and development projects, the results of which were applied in practice (he led 6 scientific-research projects and was a researcher in 11 scientific-research projects). For many years, he worked on scientific-research projects at the Polytechnic University, Krakow. Dr Đekić's research was carried out in the fields of applied electrical engineering. He published around one hundred scientific and professional papers, in national and international journals and proceedings, two monographs, and four university textbooks.

 

During his career, he held significant professional and managerial positions. He was the head of the electronics department at the Technical Overhaul Institute (REMONT) Čačak (1968-1973), the director of the Higher Technical School (1973-1977), the vice-dean for finances at the Technical Faculty Čačak  (1978-1980 and 1982-1984), and the dean of the Faculty (1984-1988). From 1998 to 2001 he was the director of the Republican Center for Talents.

 

He was a member and secretary of the Committee for the foundation of the Pedagogical-Technical Faculty Čačak. As a member of this committee, he made significant contributions during the establishment of the Pedagogical-Technical Faculty, now the Faculty of Technical Sciences Čačak. He was responsible for the construction investment of the faculty building, which resulted in high functionality of its equipment. He established laboratories for electrical measurements and fundamentals of electrical engineering at the Faculty. He taught postgraduate courses at this faculty and participated in committees for the defense of PhD theses. He was a member of similar committees at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering Belgrade and the Faculty of Electronics Niš.

 

He actively participated in the work of ETRAN Yugoslav Conference. As a highly valued professional, he was selected as an associate of the Intermunicipal Institute for the Improvement of Education and Training. He was a delegate in the Assembly of the Education Community of Serbia and a member of the Executive Board of the Assembly. For ten years, he was the president of the Board for Electrical Engineering at the Center for the Development of Scientific and Technical Creativity of the Youth of Serbia.

 

Dr Milić Đekić was also an active member of numerous professional and social organizations: the Council of the Public Interest Technology Čačak; the committees of the Teaching-Scientific Council of the University of Kragujevac; he was the president of the Council of the Development of Scientific and Technical Creativity of the Youth of Serbia Center, and was a member of the main board of the Association of Engineers and Technicians of Serbia, to mention but a few. As one of the founders he was the chief and responsible editor of the international journal Serbian Journal of Electrical Engineering from 2003.

 

For his professional-scientific activities and social engagement, he received numerous awards, diplomas, plaques, and certificates. He was awarded with the Order of Labor with Silver Wreath.

 

The memory of the Professor Milić Đekić will continue to live through his family, friends, colleagues, students, and through the academic community he immeasurably enriched with his presence. He is and will be profoundly missed as professor, colleague, mentor, and friend.
